Description
Since the first article on grassroots initiatives across the country was published in Volume 16, Issue 12, we have received a number of emails about what Canadians are doing for members of the Canadian Forces. Many have started as small thoughts, when people ask themselves, 'How can I help?' Then something extraordinary happens; the ideas snowball, picking up assistance and encouragement, as more people get involved. Here are more remarkable stories of support for Canada's troops that have started in our own backyards. Cpl. James (Jim) Arnal was killed on July 18, 2008 by an improvised explosive device in the Panjwayi District while on a foot patrol during his second tour in Afghanistan. His death launched the Pillows for Troops initiative, a campaign to raise funds to send pillows overseas for Canadian soldiers until the end of the mission in 2011.
